It doesn't look very tall to me today, but at the time, this tower was half again taller than anything I had ever built. This tower was my first Guinness World Record, built in 1992 when I was 17, and big news in tiny Spirit Lake Iowa (although the news didn't go much further than that). It was an enormous challenge and I barely had enough cards in my collection to finish it, but did get extra credit in my math class. In the fall, I headed off to Iowa State to pursue my degree in architecture. While I was in college, The National Enquirer caught hold of the card tower story, so by the time I graduated their article had snowballed and somehow cardstacking had become my real line of work.
